Case study
HKUST Analytics Challenge
In short
The public site for an inter-university analytics competition, from registration through to announcing the winners.
Built the site for the Analytics Challenge at HKUST, a competition where student teams from Hong Kong universities mine a large news and social dataset.
What it is
The Analytics Challenge is a competition run by the Center for Business and Social Analytics at HKUST. Student teams from across Hong Kong universities are given a large dataset and asked to frame a problem, develop a methodology, and build something with it.
The third edition, launched in November 2023 and decided in February 2024, drew close to 40 teams and more than 120 students, working on a dataset of over 1.2 million news articles, social media posts and comments.
What I built
I built the public site: the competition's home and announcement pages, the about and resources sections for participants, registration, and the sponsor-facing pages. It carries each edition through its full cycle, from opening registration to publishing the winners.
The site is a React app that pulls its content over GraphQL from a Strapi CMS, so each edition's pages could be updated without a redeploy. See it at analyticschallenge.hkust.edu.hk.
